One Day to Rest and We Headed out on Another Adventure

Swimming With the Whale Sharks and Visiting Oslob

After a day of rest and catching up on laundry, we headed south to Oslob for an early-morning adventure. Our tour guide picked us up at 4:00 AM so we could make the three-hour drive in time to swim with the whale sharks. We had already done this shortly after arriving in Cebu, but the Hardings hadn’t been there yet, and it was something Jill especially wanted to experience. This time, we decided to splurge and rent a GoPro so we could capture videos of the encounter.

The setup was fascinating. After a short briefing, we were given life jackets and loaded into small boats that rowed us just a short distance from shore. Once out on the water, we were allowed to remove our life jackets if we wanted to dive beneath the surface—but even without them, the salt content made it surprisingly difficult to submerge.

A small outrigger circled nearby, dropping krill into the water to guide the whale sharks right in front of the swimmers. For about 20–30 minutes, we floated and swam as these gentle giants glided gracefully around us. It was more than enough time to take videos of each of us—both individually and together.

The first time I did this, I’ll admit I was nervous. But the experience is very controlled, with clear rules and restrictions to keep both the people and the whale sharks safe. This time, I could simply enjoy the wonder of being so close to such incredible creatures.

Not bad for a bunch of Senior citizens!

Here are some of the videos we took:

Following our Whale Shark encounter our tout guide took us to see the beautiful Tumalog Waterfalls. It was breathtaking. Too bad we had just dried off from the whale sharks and we were all freezing or we would have taken a dip in the beautiful waterfall.

We had lunch at a beautiful restaurant that overlooked the ocean.

Cebu City Tour with Jill

With Jill her we wanted to show her some of the sights where we live here in Cebu so we thought it would be fun to go on a city tour. Dad and I have done a city tour twice before but we actually were able to visit a museum that had only opened the previous day so we were able to see something we hadn’t seen before.

And, here is a picture of our tour guide for the whale sharks and the city tour. We realized on Sunday that we he wasn’t in any of our pictures. His wife is the stake choir director and he is also in the choir. We were there for the History of the Church in Cebu.

Hope you enjoyed the pictures…the next post will be another adventure on a different island.
